The guitar department is the largest instrumental department at Berklee College Of Music and therefore receives the most applicants. Unfortunately, only 30% of all applicants are accepted to Berklee and 10% are guitar players. That is why it is very important that you thoroughly understand the guitar audition process and prepare as best as you can. Especially if you want to receive a scholarship.
The audition includes:
- Prepared piece of your choice (song performance)
- Sight reading
- Ear training call and response exercises
- Improvisation (usually over a standard blues)
- An interview with an admissions representative
